How To Join
LIUNA Local 582 members work in the construction industry and earn family-supporting pay, good benefits, and the opportunity for advancement. To become a member in good standing of LIUNA Local 582 it is first necessary to secure employment as an apprentice laborer with a contractor that is signatory to a current LIUNA agreement. Many of the leading general and specialty contractors that perform laborers work are signed to LIUNA agreements.
Individuals interested in the Apprentice Program must be sponsored by a Signatory Contractor. The Signatory Contractor must submit an online application on behalf of the apprentice.
The Apprentice Program is designed as a two-year program. A minimum of 2400 hours of on-the-job work training and 360 hours of classroom training is required over the course of two years in order to become a Journeyworker. Apprentices start at 60 percent of the Journeyworker's rate and progress to 70, 80 ,90 and 100 percent as they fulfill specific work and training requirements. Benefits are established using the same guidelines as for Journeyworkers.
Additional requirements are:
* Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
* Physically able to perform the work of the trade.
* Have a reading, writing, understanding and communication ability in the English language.
* High School diploma, GED or minimum 10th grade education.
* Posses a social security card.
* Posses a valid driver's license.
Once accepted into the Apprentice Program an applicant will be required to join the Laborers' Union and make arrangements to pay the $800. initiation fee.
